Pitch Cylinder – Gear Terminology
A pitch cylinder is one in which the pitch surface is a cylinder. In cylindrical gears, the pitch cylinder is the surface for machining the teeth. A cylindrical gear with an infinite pitch cylinder radius is called a gear rack.
