Nonparallel and nonintersecting axis gears (Skew gears)

Nonparallel and nonintersecting axis gears (Skew gears) - Gear Nomenclature

Gears can be classified according to the shaft direction in which they are assembled.
There are three main types: parallel axis gears, intersecting axis gears, and nonparallel and nonintersecting axis gears.

Nonparallel and nonintersecting axis gears include screw gears, worm gears, hypoid gears, and some face gears.
A nonparallel and nonintersecting axis refers to two axes that are neither intersecting nor parallel.

Gear pairs, such as worm gears and screw gears, transmit power by sliding between tooth flanks and are thereby affected by friction, making them less efficient than other types of gears (parallel axis gears and intersecting axis gears).
