Helical Rack – Gear Terminology
A helical rack is a rack that meshes with a helical gear and is created by increasing the radius of the pitch cylinder of a helical gear to infinity. This rack has a straight tooth profile with a twist.
When meshing helical racks with helical gears, the helix angle must be equal in value, but the directions of helix must be opposite.
Helical racks are stronger and quieter than straight racks of the same size, but they also produce thrust forces, so measures must be taken to counter these forces.
