Face Width – Gear Terminology
The axial length of a gear tooth is called the face width.
By increasing the face width, greater bending strength and tooth surface strength can be obtained.
When the face width of the part is smaller than that of the mating part, the face width that is engaged with the mating part is called effective face width.
